The safety circuit should be tested anually. This is done by pulling off the hose that goes to the pressure switch while the burner is on. As soon as the hose is pulled off the switch, the burner should turn off. This would simulate a blocked flue pipe. The burner should turn off so there would  be no chance of a fire.
